‘Crafter’s Block’! Surely I Can’t be the Only One?

The frustrations of being a crafter who overthinks…

I always hear the saying ‘writer’s block’, but I never actually hear anyone talk about or mention ‘crafter’s block’. I do wonder whether it exists or not? It must do?

I often get in the mood to craft, to try and create something different, but when I look at all of my craft materials I get a MASSIVE block. I never know what to do, where to start, what to try next. I find it really annoying as I really want to do something creative, but my mind won’t let me. Does anyone ever feel the same way?

I have wool, beads, buttons, scrabble letters, threads, pens, pencils… the list goes on and on! The possibilities I could create are endless! But yet, I still struggle to find something to do.

Even after browsing sites such as Pinterest, I get plenty of ideas that are amazing and I would love to create something similar… but I still always struggle with the starting point.

Maybe I should stop overthinking it all (I do that a lot, with everything). Maybe if I stopped worrying so much about the outcome/end-product, then I may create something different! If I just let my mind run free and stopped thinking, then I may be able to achieve something? What do you think?

What do you do to get rid of your ‘crafter’s block?’ What do you find works well for you?

I would love to hear your views! Feel free to leave a reply! 🙂

Thank you for reading!

  1. There’s so many things we could be doing that sometimes we can’t pick one. Right now I’m really struggling to want to do anything. No. I want to but don’t feel like it. But I’ve picked up a really simple crochet pattern that I can do term minutes at a time and it’s getting me back in the groove.

    1. I’ve been feeling the same! I want to be doing stuff, but when I think of doing something I think “nah, not in the mood for that”. I’m glad crochet is helping you! I’m yet to finish my first attempt at a granny square blanket, but been making bracelets recently! 🙂

  2. I have also experienced this. It did pass with time. When I was forced step back for health reasons my creativity came back.
